Masonry Mortar
EN 998-2 identifies and defines three different types of mortar:
- General purpose masonry mortar, masonry mortar without special characteristics made of aggregates with a generally dense structure and a dry bulk density of 1300 kg/m3
- Thin layer masonry mortar, designed masonry mortar with a maximum aggregate size less than or equal to a prescribed figure and a dry bulk density mostly higher than 1300 kg/m3
- Lightweight masonry mortar, designed masonry mortar with a dry hardened density equal or less than 1300 kg/m3 with lightweight aggregates.
The majority of factory-made dry or ready-mixed mortars which – except for water in case of dry mixed mortars – require no further constituent to be added on site. However, there are also semi-finished products, which require mixing of pre-batched constituents on site.
